SLP Nerdcast with Katie Grandbois MS, CCC-SLP, BCBA, LABA
Leigh Ann joins Kate to talk about modifying Copy and Recall Treatment (CART) and ARCS (Attentive Reading, Constrained Summarization) in the creation of home programs for patients with mild aphasia. You’ll learn some tangible, holistic strategies to tackle patient needs across reading, writing, and speaking and get a good sense of how to stay within that magic “Goldilocks Zone” - not too hard, not too easy, just right for each individual client. Leigh Ann lays out a few down-to-earth home program ideas that build on a patient’s strengths and foster the autonomy, independence, and the intrinsic motivation required for the hard work of rehab. And of course, there are great resources to explore as you implement these ideas, because Leigh Ann’s got your back! Find a chair that’s not too soft, some coffee that’s not too hot, and cozy up for some nerdy aphasia learning!
Health careers with Dr. Marn
What an honor to highlight the field of speech and language pathology on a podcast dedicated to showcasing medical jobs for people interested in pursing a healthcare career. We’re always seeking to be better understood as a profession, and one way to do it is talk about it! In this episode, we talk about what a typical day might look like for a medical SLP and some misconceptions people have about SLPs. SLP full disclosure
I had the opportunity to sit down with Jennifer and Alyssa of the SLP Full Disclosure Podcast to talk about all the things. Seriously, we covered a lot of ground. We start off with an overview of dysphagia treatment in outpatient rehab, then get into some recommendations for new grads interested in dysphagia and outpatient rehab. The conversations shifts to the importance of interdisciplinary communication in the medical setting. Next up, we cover achieving buy-in and finding success in dysphagia outpatient rehab therapy. The epic conversation wraps up with self-care and stress management. And all of this in under 45 minutes!
The Missing Link for SLPs Podcast
What a treat to join Mattie Murrey-Tegels on her podcast to talk shop! I enjoyed the opportunity to talk about how I created a training program (the Future Colleague Collaborative!) and an engaging podcast (oh Hai!) to support peer education and camaraderie.
the Library Laura podcast
Completely and refreshingly not related to the SLP world, I got to gab about the joys of BOOKS, getting a personalized “read-alike” book list from a librarian, and learn about even more books in the sci-fi/fantasy and adventure genre I should be reading from my girl, Laura. A bibliophile’s love fest.
SLP stress management podcast
I am very passionate about work/life balance and finding fulfillment in this career. I believe these two things are achievable and possible! We just need the awareness and tools to do it. So what a delight to be a guest on Jessi Andrick’s podcast to discuss my journey through stress management. We discuss tips and techniques that I learned from Jessi when she was a guest on my podcast!
speech science podcast
“A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats.” Truly a pleasure to guest host on the Speech Science Podcast with Matt Hott where we discuss 2 current SLP-related news articles, a journal article on the need for counseling courses in grad school and clarify that my podcast is Speech Uncensored… not SLP Uncensored… (you’re forgiven, Matt).
talking teletherapy podcast
For this limited series podcast, I hosted 3 episodes where I interviewed 3 incredible SLPs on providing virtual therapy for adults in the medical setting. Dr. Georgia Malandraki and Prof Liz Ward discuss providing dysphagia therapy via telehealth services and Amy Maguire weighs in on providing services for neuro-oncology patients.
FYI - these episodes are available for CEU credit!
