SLPs provide valuable services in the medical setting to enhance a patient’s access to communication and nourishment.
SLPs communicate and collaborate directly with stakeholders in patients’ plan of care. This includes Nurses, Nursing Aides, Hospitalists, Pulmonologists, ENTs/Laryngologists, Gastro-Intestinal Doctors, Neurologists, Social workers, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Respiratory Therapists, Radiologists, Radiology techs, Neonatologists, Surgeons, Neuropsychologists, Physiatrists, and more.
To practice at the top of our license, SLPs are continually engaged in learning opportunities. This includes formal CEUs, conversations with colleagues, reading research, and engaging in mentoring opportunities.
To build trust and respect in the medical setting, SLPs must form professional relationships with the stakeholders mentioned in #2.
