Dysphagia Reporting Tools
Over the past few months, I’ve been working to make my practice and documentation reflect patient-centered care. One way to achieve this is with Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and Severity Scales. These tools provide a way to make patient-centered care measurable and easily reportable.
This is an opportunity for us to implement research into our clinical practice. With these tools, we’re able to gather objective data that tracks changes to severity of dysphagia over time and report on patient perceived outcomes secondary to skilled intervention. There may be times where the severity of dysphagia does not change during the course of therapy. However, the patient’s perception of the impact of dysphagia on their quality of life has likely changed, and we can report these improvements with PROMs.
Let’s take the guesswork out of monitoring progress with dysphagia therapy and use tools that provide objective data.
