Rachel is in her 5th year as the SLP at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. On Feb. 14, 2018, she was in her classroom at MSD when the largest mass school shooting in U.S. history rocked her community and forever changed her life. Since that day, Rachel has remained at the school, determined to help her students and fellow staff members use a trauma-informed approach at school and in their personal lives. Rachel volunteers her time with a nonprofit, Canine Assisted Therapy as a certified therapy dog handler. Rachel recently won the American Speech Language Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Distinguished Early Career Professional Award in November 2020 as well as UCF Alumni’s 30 Under 30 Class of 2021, demonstrating how impressive her knowledge and community involvement are at such early stages in her career. She was also acknowledged in the keynote speech at ASHA 2019 in Orlando as a trailblazer in the field of speech.
